Installation Steps

Before any cutting or mounting begins, it is wise to confirm that the chosen wall area is free of hidden plumbing pipes or electrical cables. To do this, drill a small inspection hole first; if you encounter any utility lines, stop and call a qualified technician.

Next, determine the precise position for the exhaust opening. Take the hood’s physical dimensions and locate where its outlet sits, then transfer that reference point onto the interior wall.

Using an oscillating tool, cut the main opening for the vent. Making the hole slightly larger than required can give you extra working room and better visibility, and it also simplifies the process of routing the power cable from the hood to the junction box. Retain the cut‑out piece of drywall—it will serve as a template in the following step.

With a long drill bit, bore through the four corners of that template to the outside face of the house. Go outdoors, connect the four marks, and cut an opening sized for the vent pipe.

Now secure the exterior vent cap over that outside opening. Drive screws to hold it firmly, and apply caulk around the edges for a weathertight seal. If the cap overlaps multiple rows of lap siding, consider removing a square section of the siding and replacing it with a flat piece of PVC or wood to create a flush mounting surface.

At this stage, run the electrical supply line. Drill through any studs as needed to route the cable from the hood’s location to the electrical box. Once the cable is in place, strip the wire ends and join white‑to‑white, black‑to‑black, and the bare copper ground to its corresponding ground lead, using wire connectors; tuck the connections back into the junction box for safety.

Prepare the internal damper that came with the hood. Fit it roughly into the hole to gauge the available ducting space, then cut a short test length of duct and set it in position to confirm the clearance. Mark the outer edges of the damper on both sides so you know exactly where to apply foil tape later, then remove the damper temporarily.

Now install the damper properly. Remove the motor housing from the vent by unscrewing its fasteners. Insert the damper into the back of the hood, ensuring its orientation is correct, then secure it with screws. Seal all joints with HVAC foil tape to guarantee an airtight connection.

With the damper installed, position the hood against the wall with a helper’s assistance. Reach behind it to align the ductwork through the opening, press the unit flush, and centre it carefully. Mark the screw locations on the wall to indicate where the hood will be fixed.

Lower the hood again, and drive the mounting screws into the marked spots, leaving them ready for the final fit.

Re‑lift the hood and hang it onto the screws, adjust its position until the screw heads line up with the keyhole slots, then tighten them securely.

Complete the electrical connections inside the hood. Trim any excess cable, strip the conductors, and connect them again—white to white, black to black, and fasten the copper ground to the grounding terminal.

Finally, reinsert the fan motor into its housing, replace the filter, and the installation is fully finished.
